Welcome to New Economics Faculty Sep 1, 2013

The John E. Walker Department of Economics is pleased to welcome several new faculty for the 2013-14 academic year.

Chungsang Lam joins us as Assistant Professor from the University of Chicago, where he studied under Nobel Laureate James Heckman. Chungsang's fields of interest are Labor Economics and the Economics of Education.

Jaqueline Oliveira also joins us as Assistant Professor. She earned her PhD from Yale, studying Development Economics and Demographic Economics with Mark Rosenzweig.

Matt Lewis joins us as Associate Professor. He was previously Assistant Professor of Economics at Ohio State, and earned his PhD at UC Berkeley. Matt is well known for his work on the market for gasoline, and also has interests in Health Economics and Industrial Organization.

We also have two distinguished visitors this year. Jerry Dwyer returns to our faculty as Visiting Professor and BB&T Scholar. He was previously Director of the Center for Financial Innovation and Stability at the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta. In additon, Arnold Harberger, Distingushed Professor of Economics at UCLA and Gustavus F. and Ann M. Swift Distinguished Service Professor Emeritus, will be in residence at Clemson during September and again in April 2014. Professor Harberger will participate in our Public Economics Workshop and will give lectures on the field he pioneered, Applied Welfare Economics.
