Clemson Alumni Establish Two New Graduate Fellowships Feb 7, 2013

Guibao Liu, Ph.D. 2004 and Mark Mitchell, Ph.D. 1987 will help establish two new graduate fellowships in honor of Emeritus Faculty in the John E. Walker Department of Economics, Professor Mike Maloney and Professor John Warner. Professor Maloney is the long-time department chair and primary force behind developing the Ph.D. Program in Economics, and was the Ph.D. advisor to both Guibao and Mark. Professor Warner supervised Guibao’s Ph.D. dissertation and Mark’s M.A. thesis. Guibao also worked as Professor Warner’s teaching assistant.

Mark is a founding principal of CNH Partners, LLC (affiliate of AQR Capital, LLC), a hedge-fund based in Greenwich, CT. Guibao is a financial economist at CNH where he develops pricing models for complex securities and performs various risk management functions.

Drs. Maloney and Warner are known for their golf exploits, and are in the center of the accompanying picture, having carried Bob Tollison (at left) and Skip Sauer around 18 holes of the Walker Course with enough shots to spare for a prize in a charity tournament. The Department of Economics thanks Mark and Guibao for supporting our doctoral students and recognizing our emeritus colleagues.
